Lang - the Person behind the Paintings

My discovery of painting as a form of expression came only about seven years ago and undoubtedly developed out of my lifelong affinity to music. Even as a small child I wanted to play the piano - a wish my parents finally satisfied by buying an old upright for $20. Violin lessons followed later, as well as organ, and then music studies at Ithaca College (Bachelor of Music Education) and Wichita State University (Master of Music). After completeing my studies and a year of public school teaching, the wanderlust overcame me - I wanted to explore the European roots of our music and of my family (the Langs came from Reitzenstein by Hof in Germany). With suitcase and violin in hand, I set out for Europe in 1976; a short time later I landed a job with the Berlin Symphony, the orchestra I still play violin with today. Sooner or later, it was inevitable that I take hold of a paintbrush - painting offers freedoms that are unknown to orchestra musicians and is a wonderful complement to the audible arts: the borderlines between "right" and "wrong" fade away and the colors of "major" and "minor" become visible, tangible qualities. A wonderful set of circumstances! I have been painting in the Galerie Remise in Berlin-Charlottenburg with Dorit Barnick since 1999. Exhibits in Berlin include the Galerie Remise, Rathaus Reinickendorf, Labsaal Lübars, and various hospitals and cafés. Outside the city, I am a regular contributor to the Galerie im Kornboden and Café Mühlstein in the Gutsmühle Minsleben (on the edge of the Harz Mountains, Germany). Each summer I make a pilgrimage to my home in western New York · the idyllic, green landscape there is balsam for my city soul and attendance at the annual Fine Arts and Wine weekend event on Keuka Lake has become a welcome tradition. If I have made
you curious to see my paintings or you would like to know more about KlangArt,
just send me an email: . . .or give
me a call in Germany: . . . or visit the Café Mühlstein in the Gutsmühle Minsleben in Wernigerode, where there is always a selection of my greeting cards on display. A selection of my greeting cards and paintings is now available in the U.S, too. Check my "Events" page for addresses. Your comments and inquiries are always welcome. Thanks for visiting! |
